The 2015 NCAA Division 2 Men’s Soccer Season saw Pfeiffer from North Carolina win their first national championship, led by the top prospect in the division and one of the top MLS prospect for the 2017 SuperDraft, Trinidad and Tobago striker Nathan Regis. Pfeiffer finished the year winning all 25 games they played, outscoring their opponents 87-18 with Regis scoring 32 goals and adding seven assists in 25 games. Regis, a Junior in 2015, is eligible for one more year of school and so far has 61 career goals in 65 and added 19 assists. Pfeiffer beat Cal Poly Pomona 4-0 in the final to win the championship game with Regis scoring two goals.
In the 2016 MLS SuperDraft two NCAA Division 2 players were drafted as projected. Tony Alfaro was a top 40 pick going 27th overall to Seattle while Vancouver drafted German forward Christopher Hellman who played in the fifth division of German Soccer before attending Lynn University. The following are the top 25 players from NCAA Division 2 according to ProspectXI who were available in the 2016 MLS Draft but were not drafted. These players are now regarded as free agents and can be offered trials/contracts by MLS, NASL, USL, PDL, NPSL club or a club outside of Canada and the United States.
