ANALYSIS

Young signed with Plymouth Argyle Centre of Excellence and the age of nine. He started making a name for himself locally in 2008-2009 playing for the club’s U-18 side and against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Youth Cup as well as games with the reserve team. He made his professional debut for Plymouth Argyle in English League One where manager Peter Ried said of Young “He has got good feet, He’s a bit slight but he’s a good footballer”

Young played sparingly in 2010-2011 as Plymouth were relegated to English League Two although he did record his first professional assist. In English League Two, Luke was a regular for Plymouth playing 94 games over three seasons scoring eight goals and contributing eight assists. He also won the clubs Young Player of the Year in 2012.

At the beginning of the 2014-2015 season Young singed a two year contract with Torquay United who were recently relegated to the English Conference. Young was put into a more an attacking midfield role and also responsible as a free kick taker. Luke excelled in this role scoring six goals in 39 games but also adding 14 assists and connecting with 37 shots on target. He also was expected on defensively which led to 38 fouls conceded, 10 yellow cards and was sent off against Southport for a dangerous tackle.

Luke was used as a winger and box-to-box midfielder during his time at Plymouth not the fastest or strongest player he could be pushed off the ball. Where he has excelled is as a deep playing midfielder where he has time on the ball to help build up play. He is also a willing shooter and is capable of scoring from distance. Luke provides a good cross especially on set plays and can also provide the long ball. Known for his stamina and work rate his added contribution on the offense makes him an even greater asset.
