ANALYSIS

Born in Cote d’Ivoire, Maxwel started to play in France at the age of 8 with the Academy team ARS Laquenexy although soon moved to FC Metz in 2004 where he was part of their youth system until he made his senior debut as a 16 year old for Metz 2 in the CFA where he played in 12 games and scored two goals. He also had his 1st team debut with FC Metz in the France National and played nine games scoring one goal.

FC Metz were promoted to France Ligue 2 in 2013 and Cornet split time between the first team where he played in 14 games attaining three shots on target and with FC Metz II in the CFA 2 where he scored four goals in nine games. He elected not resign with FC Metz and instead moved to Olympique Lyon where he signed a four year deal.

He was injured at the start of the 2014-2015 season with a thigh strain but made his debut for Olympique Lyonnais against his old club FC Metz in France Ligue 1 on January 25th, 2015. Maxwel played four games with the fist team and further two games with Olympique Lyon II where he scored two goals.

Cornet has represented France at both the U-17 and U-19 level and in the UEFA championships at that level he scored four goals in five games for the U-17 and one goal in six games at the U-19 level. It is still unsure if Cornet is going to elect to represent France or Cote d’Iviore as a senior national although based on the role he has been in the France youth system odds are he might get a senior call up by the Blues sooner than later.

Maxwell has a great potential and is already known for his great speed and agility and his ability to accelerate with the ball at this feet. He needs to improve his general passing especially his cross if he is to play on the wing and as he matures his finishing and overall strength will be a priority to be Lyon first choice starting forward at the moment. Based on is overall talent and skill level he could be a $20 million dollar transfer target in the next five years.
