ANALYSIS

The history of Brandon Allen is if you play him he will score. He started his career in the USSDA with PDA U16 team, where he scored 38 goals in 60 games. Allen then moved to the New York Red Bulls academy, scoring 55 goals in 56 games for the U18 side. He also scored 118 career goals for St Joseph High School in Brandon home state of New Jersey, winning the state Player of the Year award and NSCAA All-America high school selection.

When signing his letter of intent, Georgetown University head coach Brian Wiese said “Brandon is a big, strong forward, who knows how to put the ball in the net as well as anyone in the country” and Allen showed this in his freshman season starting in all 26 games, scoring 16 goals 4 via headers, 2 assists, 45 shots on target finish in the top 10 of NCAA D1 goal scorers in the country. Allen won many freshman of year awards and was BIG EAST Rookie of year.

Allen has scored a total of 38 goals most of all current NCAA D1 players and has had played in 70 career games. He played two full games during the 2014 PDL season with Baltimore Bohemians and had 10 total shots and scored a goal. Allen has also trained with the United States national team program at the U18 and U20 level.

There has been some concerns that Allen has only scored 11 goals the last two NCAA Division 1 season despite Georgetown being successful as a club. Allen has been given new responsibilities, which has asked him to play beyond the 18 yard box including in some situations taking free kicks. He also a player who depends the service of his teammates to be effective, he dominates defenders in the box but is less effective chasing or dribbling with the ball. There is still high hopes for Allen in the MLS, because he is one of the more proven goal scorer to come through the academy and university system.

Signing a Homegrown contract with the Red Bulls, Allen could find himself in the first team squad, but will likely be splitting time with New York Red Bulls II in USL.
