ANALYSIS

Hamilton has had high expectations placed on him towards being a key contributor to Toronto FC MLS club and the Canadian National Senior team. He opted to turn down scholarships to some of the top NCAA Division 1 schools, instead looking at the professional route and sign a homegrown contract with Toronto FC at the start of the 2014 season.

The Canadian prospect signed with Toronto Academy as a 15 -year-old and played in a number of tournaments, playing in the OSL Elite’s Men’s League as a 17-year-old. He also represented Canada at the U17 level, first in 2011 and then again in 2013 where he scored five goals in eight games. He then was promoted to the Canadian U20 team, scoring three goals in five games before making his senior debut as an 18-year-old coming on as a late substitute against Colombia.

Hamilton played in a couple reserve games with Toronto FC in 2013 and made his MLS debut against Colorado on April 12th,2014. He was then loaned out to Wilmington in USL Pro, where he scored five goals in 11 games. He garnered some interest from European clubs, ultimately going on loan to Portuguese Second Division club Trofense where he was used as a substitute for five times. Hamilton will be splitting time between TFC and Toronto FC II, signing on loan with TFC II in USL at the beginning of the 2015 season.

Hamilton has a lot of qualities, including good speed and size and is a quality finisher. He uses his strength well, but scores most of his goals on the run based from good positioning and capitalizing on mistakes from the defensive line. He needs to improve his passing, build up play and his defensive skills, but has shown a good ability to defend from the front at the USL level through pressing the action. At the professional level he will also needs to work on his stamina, allowing him to become an even bigger threat throughout a full 90 minutes each time out.
