ANALYSIS:

Scott is a versatile player that played in key role in Virginia winning the National Championship during the 2014 season, but missed most of the 2015 season with an injury. The New Jersey native was named to the first team all-state and ESPNHS All-American for his high school Christian Brothers Academy, where he won the State’s championship. Scott also has vast USSDA experience, originally playing with PDA U-16 before moving to the New York Red Bulls U-18 team where Scott played in 49 games, starting 41 of them and scoring 19 goals before joining University of Virginia.

Scott played in 61 games in his first three seasons at Virginia playing both in a holding midfield role, as a wide midfielder or as a full back and was most effective sending crosses from the wing or via free kicks. In 2014 Virginia won the NCAA Division 1 National Championship with Scott playing valuable minutes, including providing the game winning assist in the first round and played a key role in the final against UCLA despite missing a penalty kick in the shootout.

Scott was projected to be a homegrown signing after the 2015 NCAA season, but an early season sports hernia injury saw him miss 12 games. He did come back at the end of the season playing as a left-back. The New York Red Bulls did sign Thomsen to a Homegrown contract after the 2015 season and he can be useful player especially for the New York Red Bull II side in USL although he needs to prove he can remain healthy.
