ANALYSIS:

Julian is a German attacking midfielder who was called in U-16 and U-18 German Youth National Teams and played in German Soccer, including games in the German third Division 3.liga with Preussen Munster. Originally Buescher played with VFL Bochum, including playing 22 games with their junior team in the German Bundesliga U19 league, but transferred after the 2010-2011 season to join Preussen. He excelled with the Munster U19 team before being called up to the first team. He then transferred to Sportsfreunde Lotte in the German West Regionalliga, but after limited games decide to attend school in America.

When signed to Syracuse, the Orange Head Coach Ian McIntyre said, “Julian has the technical ability and experience to make an immediate impact here, He is an intelligent, creative player with the ability to deliver the important final pass.” Buescher was a starter for the Orange in his freshman season playing a deeper role and contributed four direct assist, but it was 2015 as a sophomore where he shined scoring 8 goals and adding nine direct assists in 25 games and helping Syracuse reach the National Championship semi-final game. He also played with PDL side K-W United and played a role in their championship playoff run.

Buecher is strong on the ball and can make runs as well as passing it to the open man. He has the ability to run a game from the midfield, but has struggled with consistency both in Germany and during his time in NCAA Soccer. He is good technically but also has size and if asked can play deeper with the ability to tackle and track back. He also showed a shooting touch from long range. The impression is that Julian is motived to play in the MLS, although he will be somewhat against it as an international player. However signing a GA contract will give clubs motivation to sign him.

Julian was ultimately drafted 11th overall by DC United in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.
